Richard M. Rabbitt, age 92, of St. Charles, formerly of McHenry, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2017 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva with his loving family at his side.
He was born March 30, 1925 in Woodstock, the son of Michael and Annabelle (Breen) Rabbitt.
Richard served his country in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He graduated from Western Illinois University and then received a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. Richard was a high school teacher and coach for 38 years. His teaching career began at St. Mary’s in Woodstock. From there he continued to teach at Momence, Clayton, and Ashton Illinois. After years of teaching he happily retired at McHenry High School. Richard was a longtime member of the Elks Club and Moose Lodge. He loved to golf and his passion was kids and high school sports. He was a very loving and generous man who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years Marjorie (Sorrill); children Martha (Douglas) Eyles of Geneva and Michael (Kristine) of Rockton; grandchildren Emily (Brad) Holehan, Rebecca (Dane) Lockhart, Claire Scatterday, and Brendan Rabbitt; great grandson Zeke Lockhart, and soon to be born great granddaughter baby Holehan and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Raymond, and sisters Mildred and Gertrude.
Visitation for Richard will be held Friday, March 30, 2018 from 9:00 am until the time of his memorial service at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles with Rev. Msgr. Steve Knox celebrant.
Burial will be held privately at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles, Illinois 60174would be appreciated.
