William “Bill” Schaefle, age 88, passed away at his home on May 18, 2021. He was born May 6, 1933 in Oak Park, the son of John and Lucile (Sanders).
He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Elizabeth “Betty” (Major); children Stephen (Fran) of Hawaii, Peter (Lora) of North Carolina, and Elizabeth Schaefle Malone of North Carolina; step-sons Michael Erath (Joy) of Wisconsin and Kevin Erath, Jr. of Kentucky; brother-in-law Thomas Blackwell; nephew Tom Blackwell; niece Susan Blackwell; 18 grandchildren; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Blackwell and Lucile Joan Schaefle; his dear son John “Jack”; and infant great granddaughter Penelope Jane Schaefle.
William was raised in Evanston and graduated from Evanston Township High School. He received his BA degree from Northwestern University and JD degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was a partner in the law firm of Clausen Miller and served as a mediator in Kane and DuPage Counties. He was very active in professional and community organizations. He loved music and sang in church choirs for many years. He also enjoyed traveling.
William served in the United States Air Force and Air Force Reserve as a pilot rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel until his retirement in 1980.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 11, 2021 at 10:30 am at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva.
