Wayne Sandman

Wayne E. Sandman, age 93 of Batavia, passed away Saturday April 18, 2026 at the Landings Senior Living with his family by his side.

Wayne was born April 21, 1932, in Barrington, the son of Edward and Lydia (Kropp) Sandman. Wayne grew up helping on the family farm until he attended college at Iowa State University. He later transferred to Illinois State University, where he studied education and played football. He graduated in 1954 with a bachelors degree in Education.

During a school break he met the love of his life, Joan Becker on a blind date. They married and together raised four children and had countless adventures in their sixty~nine years together.

In 1976 Wayne completed his doctorate degree from Indiana University and became Athletic Director at Morton College in Cicero.

Wayne was an accomplished builder, an avid traveler,  and a constant source of support for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We were blessed to be on the receiving end of his wisdom and love. He will be greatly missed.

Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1954~1958 as a jet mechanic/instructor.

Wayne is survived by his children Steve (Kathryn) of Geneva, Tim (Sarah) of Dubuque, Iowa, Sally (Randy) Pease of Yorkville, and Lori (Norbert) Lyle of Arizona; he is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; and his brother Bruce (Phyllis) of Mass.

He was preceded in by his parents and his wife Joan who passed away in 2022.

A visitation for Wayne will be held Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 11:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 1:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PNrB0uz0er4

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
