Walter A. “Wally” Kalaine, age 83, of Elgin, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024 at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village.
He was born March 3, 1941 in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Alice (Makaraitis) Kalaine.
Wally served his country in the United States Army Illinois National Guard. He attended Devry University earning an Associate Degree in Electronic Technology. He retired from Perkin Elmer Corporation after 35 years of experience in scientific instrumentation. A portion of those years were spent in Houston, Texas where he was involved with supporting NASA's Gemini and Apollo Space Missions. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Parish in St. Charles, Illinois, a part time member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Green Valley, Arizona, and the American Legion Post 66 in Arizona.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Joanne (Bartholomew); children Susan Kalaine of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Patti (Ryan) Strauss of Ogden Dunes, Indiana, and Mary (Chris) Volmer of St. Charles, Illinois; grandchildren Travis (Sarah Steger)Volmer, Devin Volmer, Domenick Strauss and Georgia Strauss; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024, from 9:30 am until 10:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Rt 38) Geneva. Then proceeding to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (Downtown) 400 Cedar Street, St. Charles for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am with Monsignor Steve Knox celebrant.
Burial will be held privately at Union Cemetery in St. Charles, Illinois.
