Virginia W. Bruno, age 99, of Geneva, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at Bartlett Victory Center surrounded by her family.
Virginia was born September 18, 1924, in Forney, Texas the daughter of Frederick and Nell (Freeman) Wilmarth.
She loved growing up on farms in the Forney and Plano, TX area, developing a lifelong love of animals before moving to Dallas during WWII. There she met her future husband Frank Bruno, who was temporarily assigned to the Army Air Corp band. In 1949 she moved to the Chicago area where she reconnected with Frank who became her husband of 63 years. She devoted her life to raising her three sons with Frank and later, their grandchildren.
She is survived by her three sons Frank (Ivanka) of Roselle, Paul (Mary) of Gurnee and Michael (Debra) of Geneva; grandchildren Paul “Tony” (Colleen) of Champaign, Virginia “Ginny” Bruno of Gurnee, Adam (Elizabeth) of Geneva and great-grandchild Joseph Bruno.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Mary Catherine Bunn, Fred and Leland Wilmarth, Dorothy Hogan and Mildred Wilson and by her husband Frank who passed away February 19, 2013.
Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Saturday, January 27,2024 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Rd, Geneva, with Father John McFadden Celebrant. Visitation will be held at church from 9:30 am until the time of Funeral Mass. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vS2KgsNpQWY
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
