Virginia "Ginny" Young Obituary

Virginia D. "Ginny" Young, age 93, of Geneva, passed away June 6, 2026 at Greenfields of Geneva.

She was born December 16, 1932, in Peoria, the daughter of Roger and Kathryn (Freeman) Dawson.

Ginny was an avid book reader and loved music. She was a wonderful artist in painting, sculpting and ceramics and loved to sing. She sang in the church choir for over 73 years. Ginny was a first-grade teacher in Peoria after graduating from Bradley University, this is where she met my father, Jack. When we moved to Geneva in 1976, Ginny pursued her art personally and worked for Persimmon Tree for years creating signs and art for the store.

Ginny was a true advocate for the less fortunate, donating her time and financial resources into the community. She donated her time teaching art as therapy to the inmates at the state hospital in Elgin for many years and to the women in the old Girl’s School in Geneva until it’s closure. She, along with my father Jack were deeply involved with and cared about Tri-City Family Services in Geneva.

Ginny loved life and gardening, she always had a beautiful garden. Ginny was often known for her contagious laugh and giggles, she was always happy and she dearly loved her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Andrew (Megan) Young of Geneva; grandchildren Marlee, Andrew "AJ" and Samuel Young, Kelly (Maddie) O’Brien, Nicholas, Matthew, and Ethan Cumblad and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger, Kathryn Kuhle and her step-father Herman Kuhle, sister Gloria McDaniel, daughter Amy Young, and her beloved husband Jack, who passed away in 2015.

A visitation for Ginny will be held Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2:00-4:00pm until the time of her funeral service at 4:00-5:00pm at Fox Valley Presbyterian Church, 227 East Side Drive, Geneva.

Burial will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Tri-City Family Services would be appreciated.
