Viola Jean Houghton

Viola Jean Houghton, age 85, of Geneva, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at AccentCare Hospice in Naperville surrounded by her loving family. 

She was born September 15, 1937, in Chicago, the daughter of Walter and Viola (Voss) Anderson.

“Jeane” worked as a Service Rep at Illinois Bell and as Principal Clerk Typist at the Village of Tinley Park, but her most favorite “job” was being a wife and homemaker.  She enjoyed dancing, reading, and playing cards.  Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her family and friends, especially as beloved “Grandma Jeane” to her 12 grandchildren and “Gigi” to her 4 great-grandchildren.

She is survived by children Michael (Linda) of Grayslake, Melinda (Michael) Bernhard of Geneva, and Marc (Tia) of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; grandchildren Amy (Dave) Granstrom, David and Mary Houghton, Sarah (Scott) Passman, Emily (Zack) Stivers, Bradley, Mark, and Hannah Bernhard, and Allison, Drake, Noah, and Meiling Houghton; great grandchildren Ava, Luke and Thomas Passman and Haakon Granstrom. 

Jeane was preceded in death by her loving husband Frederick, her parents and grandson John Anthony Bernhard.

Funeral Prayers will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2023 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Rt. 38), Geneva with a rosary recited at 7:45 pm.

Private Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva, IL 60134 would be appreciated.
