Truman F. Link, age 78, of St. Charles, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born October 4, 1945, in Naperville, the son of Carl and Jennie (Ackerlund) Link.
Truman grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois with his brother Ron, and sister Carlene. As a baby, his family affectionately nicknamed him Ging for the sound he made when he would cry. In his youth, Truman enjoyed playing baseball, spending time with his siblings, and playing with his dog, Bonnie.
At the age of 20, Truman enlisted in the Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Private. As part of his service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Expert Marksmanship Badge (Rifle).
Truman was married to his beautiful wife Mary for 51 wonderful years. He was a loving father to Jackie & Tammie and father-in-law to Michael. Truman adored his sister, brother, nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, Mary’s Mom and Dad, as well as her extended family.
He was an avid outdoorsman, spending his free time turkey hunting, deer hunting, and fishing with his family. Truman shared his love of cars, ATVs, snowmobiles, and being at the family cabin with his daughters.
Truman was a master builder and owned his own construction company before retiring. In retirement, he enjoyed woodworking, building furniture, tinkering with their RZR side-by-side, and working with HO Scale trains.
In April of 2023, Truman was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Unfortunately, his cancer spread to additional areas of his body in September. He fought his battle with cancer valiantly until his last day.
We will miss him dearly, but we know that he is finally at rest in eternal peace with the love of his life, and will continue to watch over us from Heaven.
He is survived by his two daughters Tammie (Michael) Lieb of Streamwood and Jackie Link of St. Charles; sister Carlene Hillyer of Arizona; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ron, and his devoted wife Mary who passed away earlier this year.
