Thomas John Maloney

Thomas John Maloney, age 88, of Geneva and previously Homewood, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, the only child of the late Thomas Michael and Lillian (Varkelis) Maloney.

He is survived by his wife Doris (nee Clark); children Laura (Stephen) Chun of California, Michael (Lisa) Maloney of Iowa, Marilyn (Dave) Tomfohrde of Hinsdale, Kathleen (Wade) Rome of Florida and Jennifer (Scott) Marshall of Clarendon Hills; grandchildren Christina, Alexandra, and David Chun, Brett, Matthew, and Charlie Tomfohrde, Chase (Corinne) and Gage Rome, Grady, Marcella and Grant Marshall.

Tom was raised on the south side of Chicago. His journey began at St. Brendan’s grammar school where he forged lifelong friendships. He graduated from Leo High School and went on to graduate from Loyola University in Chicago. After completing his education, Tom served in the Marine Corps and was in active reserves for five years. Following his military service, he enjoyed a successful career and retired as an executive at IBM where he made lasting contributions to the company and his colleagues.

Tom was an avid supporter of high school football and cherished attending Chicago Catholic league football games, particularly relishing the thrill of watching Mt. Carmel football with his son, Michael.

He met the love of his life, Doris at a Sunday night dance held at the local parish. After a brief courtship, they enjoyed over 62 years of marriage, was a proud father, doting grandfather, lover of ice cream, Aurelios’s pizza from the old oven and the occasional Miller High Life from a green plastic mug. Tom was a true family man and dedicated his life to God and family. He loved having the whole “gang” together and was happiest when all 5 of his kids were under one roof.

Visitation will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am up until his Celebration of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva, Illinois 60134.  Click this link to livestream the funeral mass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0B3HWx_uMk

Burial will be held privately.
