Thomas Harvey, age 74, of St. Charles, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 24, 2026, at his home.
He was born on July 4, 1951, in Chicago to Kinnie and Edna (Lakes) Harvey, and in many ways this combination of when and where were an essential part of him; he loved Chicago with a kind of fierce pride, and he was patriotic in a way that was uniquely him.
Thomas spent his early years growing up between Chicago and Breathitt County, Kentucky. That mix of big‑city and country living gave him a personality that was equal parts grit, charm, and rockabilly soundtrack. As a young man, he joined the army and served in Vietnam.
Most of his middle years were spent in the Chicago suburbs with his first wife, Ilse, raising their 3 children. He worked 30+ years as a salesman for Zep Manufacturing, providing with a kind of steady, no-nonsense reliability. He and Anne married in 2002, and the two of them leaned heavily into travel. In the last five years, he took on a retirement career driving a school bus for children with special needs, which suited him more than he probably expected.
He loved sharing a good time with the people he cared about. He and Anne were known for their parties — big, small, didn’t matter; they hosted with a kind of joyful generosity that made everyone feel welcome. He could be found enjoying a good beer, biking, listening to country and pop classics, grilling, and watching history documentaries, often accompanied by his dear dog, Buck.
He was our self-proclaimed jack of all trades, master of none, with a wealth of useless knowledge that few could match. He was and always will be “psychedelic as ever”.
Thomas is survived by his wife Anne; children Brandon (Kristina) of McHenry, Derek (Meredith) of Downers Grove, Jennifer (Benjamin) Dori of Millstadt; grandchildren Madison, Makenna, Chase, Brice, Wyatt Harvey and Margaret and Nathan Dori; former wife, Ilse Harvey, siblings Bonnie (Jorge) Cantu of Downers Grove, Kenneth (Ruth) of Texas and Keith (Karen) of Elgin, beloved pup Buck Brewskey; and many more friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his cherished companion, Lindsay Mac.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Church Street Brewery (1480 Industrial Dr, Itasca, Illinois 60143) from 3:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Please use front entrance “The Steeple”. Join us for Bagpipes at 6:00 PM and military funeral honors at 7:00 PM.
