Susan L. McArthur

Susan Lynn McArthur, age 50, of Elburn, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 7, 1976, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Jacqueline (Tracz) Barrett.

In life, Susan was a passionate and generous person.  Her temper could sometimes get the better of her, but she was equally quick to offer a kind word and a helping hand.

She had many fond memories of vacations with family and friends.  A favorite destination of hers was South Haven, Michigan and its lighthouse.  The sight of the lake and the lighthouse always had a calming effect on her.  In 2003 Dan used it as the backdrop to propose marriage.

She loved to cheer for her Iowa Hawkeyes, to the consternation of her husband.

Though she never had children of her own, she was very proud of her nephew, Jake, and the man he has grown up to be.  She was also a proud “dog mom” for Tyger and later Otis.

Late in life, Susan found her calling as a race official for triathlon events.  She traveled across the country to oversee events for Iron Man and other sanctioning bodies.  She made many lifelong friends, both in her fellow officials and the participating athletes.

For her 50th birthday, Susan and Dan took a vacation to Florida.  While there, she spotted several dolphins.  The sight of them brought her a sense of peace.

She is survived by loving husband Dan of 23 years; mother Jacqueline of Hampshire; sister Lindsey Barrett of Hampshire; nephew Jake Scharringhausen (Kaylor Speirer) of Dekalb; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father John.

A visitation for Susan will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 4:00 pm until the time of her funeral service at 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street, Geneva.
