Sheril DeJong Obituary

Sheril Lynne “Sheri” DeJong, age 61, of St. Charles, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

She was born March 13, 1959 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Jack and Ramona (Ferguson) Augustine.

Sheri graduated from Aurora University with a BSN in nursing.  She started her career at Mercy Center Hospital, worked at Wildrose Elementary school as a nurse and finished her career at Dr Banti’s private practice. It was such a reflection of who she was, a caring, loving, help others with anything they needed person.

She had 3 great loves in her life that shaped everything she did.

She loved God with her whole heart. She was a prayer warrior, she had journals and lists and scraps of paper everywhere of reminders of who to be praying for and when.  She loved studying the Bible and learning more about Him and she enjoyed telling others about Him.

She loved her family. She was a devoted daughter. She was a loving, caring, giving wife.  She was a terrific self-sacrificing, loving mother. But her favorite role was that of a love them at all costs, caring, spoil them rotten grandma. She was happiest and most content with a grandkid in her lap, reading or singing to them or just snuggling.

She loved her friends.  She spent a lifetime of developing close relationships.  She was a great listener, she was quick to laugh, she wanted to include everyone, and she wanted to make sure you felt special. She was always the first one to offer to help or just be there if you needed someone to be with you.  She spent most of her time cultivating those relationships and checking up on folks.

She was fun loving, liked to be included and was ready to celebrate anywhere at any time.  She was caring, generous, had a gift of hospitality and a deep love of people.

She was a fighter, she courageously battled cancer for more than 12 years, and she experienced God doing miracles in her life over and over. And when it was time she said, I just want to go home.

She was confident when she breathed her last breath, her next breath would be in the loving arms of Jesus.

She will be greatly missed and while we grieve, she would absolutely want everyone to know that she is celebrating with no more pain, no more tears and a new body in Heaven.

She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 37 years Scott; children Brad (Meghan) of Waltham, Massachusetts, Alison (Austin) Gardiner of Villa Park, and Mike (Heather) of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandchildren Brady, Luke, Mac, Brooklyn, A.J.and Wells; parents; brothers Robert (Brenda) Augustine of Maple Park and Steve (Terri) Augustine of Baltimore, Maryland; and many other dear relatives and friends.
