Scott Lee Ebaugh, 73, of Geneva, IL passed away Friday evening, Oct. 25, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 17, 1951 in Sycamore, IL, the second son of Don and Shirley (Larson) Ebaugh. His family moved to nearby Dixon in 1954, where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Dixon High School in 1969 and sang in three high school bands, most notably “Sunday Pigeon Massacre.”
Scott attended Southern Illinois University in September 1969, and became active in student government and reader’s theater. He won the Best Actor’s Award in 1972 for his performance as the American poet Vachel Lindsay in the original musical “Trumpet of the New Moon.”
He later attended Graduate School at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, earning a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration.
Over the years 1974 to 2006, Scott was the lead singer of “Electric Battista,” a classic rock cover band that became locally famous—if not legendary in its time—in DeKalb and surrounding areas.
On a professional level over those same years, he served in multiple roles—primarily in the Elgin area—including as an English teacher, Adult Ed instructor/director, regional specialist for the Illinois State Board of Ed, and Adult Ed director and Associate Dean at Elgin Community College.
Before his retirement in 2013, Scott was a private education consultant and worked in sales for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
An avid sports fan, Scott liked baseball best as a player, and also football, wrestling and golf in his later years as a member of the “Dreaded Yips” league. He also enjoyed international travel.
He is survived by Susan (Fritz) Ebaugh, his wife of 43 years; their daughter Kathryn Ebaugh Davey (Elliott), and a first grandson Owen Scott Davey, along with many other dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 beginning at 9:30 am until the time of the memorial service at 11:30 am—led by Pastor Lou Quetel—at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State St. (Rte. 38), Geneva. For information call 630-232-8233 or visit malonefh.com.
