Sara A. Smith

Sara A. Smith, age 84, of Batavia, formerly of Geneva, passed away Friday January 24, 2020 at Brighton Gardens Assisted Living in St. Charles surrounded by her family.

She was born October 26, 1935 in Bloomington, the daughter of Dr. Francis and Isabel (Hayes) McNertney.

Sara graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Chicago in 1956. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Bloomington and Delnor Hospital in Geneva. She loved animals especially riding horses in her early years and also travelling on cruise ships. Her greatest enjoyment in life came from spending time with family and friends and she will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years Ken; children Shawn (Kurt) VanScoik of Carmel, IN, Daniel Smith of Warrenville, and Tamara Theall of Geneva; grandchildren Sargent Matthew, Eric and Austin VanScoik, Cory Smith, Sara (Nick) Kuz, and Lauren and Paige Theall.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Mary Catherine Sedlock and Daniel McNertney, daughter-in-law Linda Smith, and her son Philip.

Visitation for Sara will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2020 from 9:00 am until the time of her funeral service at 11:00 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38) Geneva.

Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Geneva.
