Ronald L. Cregier Obituary

Ronald Lawrence “Ron” Cregier, age 77, of St Charles, passed away Friday, March 14, 2025, at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 21, 1948, in Chicago, the son of Lawrence and Ann (Baran) Cregier and grew up in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. Ron attended St. Benedict High School, graduated from BMI Technical School and graduated from Harper College in 1978 with a degree in Applied Science and Data Processing Technology.

Ron met his wife Jody while in high school at a bowling alley in 1967 through mutual friends. Ron was on a bowling league with his friend Don and his girlfriend Kathy brought her friend Jody. Ron and Jody dated for 2 years after that.

In 1969, Ron was drafted for the Vietnam War, the same time he and Jody were planning to get married. He received a deployment extension so they could get married as planned on August 23, 1969, and 30 days later, Ron was sent to training then to Nha-Trang, Vietnam.  Ron served his country as a member of the United States Army.  Due to Ron’s clerical skills, he landed a job in an office on the main base.  This also led him to work as the local mailman.  In his downtime, he organized basketball games and other leisure sports with his fellow soldiers.

As a result of Ron’s service in Vietnam, he was later diagnosed with Diabetes due to agent orange exposure.  Ron lived with Diabetes since he was in his 30’s and dealt with a lifetime of complications including heart issues that led to a pacemaker/defibrillator and eventually an LVAD.  Despite Ron’s health issues, he persevered and never let his Diabetes get the best of him.

Ron spent his entire career in IT within the banking and insurance industries.  Ron started at Continental Bank in 1972 in the south loop of Chicago where he worked his way up the corporate ladder for 22 years.  He continued to work in Chicago for CNA, IBM and ABN AMRO (Bank of America) where he retired as the Vice President of IT.  After he retired from ABN AMRO, Ron dabbled in entrepreneurship opportunities.

Ron was a sports enthusiast, he played basketball, baseball, softball, and was in a bowling league for many years. He always enjoyed watching Chicago sports, especially the White Sox and Bears.  After retirement, Ron and Jody traveled all over the US and Canada. Ron always liked the outdoors, enjoyed gardening, and working in the yard.  Most mornings and evenings, Ron could be found sitting in his chair with a cup of coffee enjoying being outside.  He was extremely loyal, hardworking and one of the kindest souls you would ever meet. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years Jody (Gozy); daughters Cori (Paul) Wollenberg of St. Charles and Beth (Darryl Lovesey) Cregier of St. Charles; grandchildren Sophia and Brandon Wollenberg and Jordan and Taylor Lovesey; siblings Robert Cregier and Karen (James) Naumiec; and many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Cregier and grandson Aaron Lovesey.

Services for Ron will be held at a later date.
