Rolande I. Michael

Rolande I. Michael, age 82, of Geneva, passed away Friday, November 8, 2024 at Greenfields in Geneva.

Rolande was born September 28, 1942, in Dax, France, the daughter of Marcel Fochi and Marcelle (Bras) Vaquette.

Rolande, who grew up in southern France, left for America in 1965 at the age of 23. She quickly mastered English and earned her degree in a nuclear medicine program.  She also met the love of her life, Helmut, and the two married on July 26, 1974.  Not too long after Rolande and Helmut welcomed Nicole into the world and after expertly balancing work and family for several years she was able to quit working and focus all her energy on her family and her beloved flower beds. Her newfound free time also provided her with time to regularly volunteer at the elmentary school, refugee organizations, and the Alliance Francais. Rolande and Helmut ultimately left their cherished home in Lisle and retired to Greenfields in Geneva.  After losing Helmut in 2022, Rolande spent her remaining time being the best nana to her three grandchildren until she passed away peacefully after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  

She is survived by her daughter Nicole (Dan) Hanlon of Geneva; grandchildren Aidan, Patrick and Ellie Hanlon; sister Claude Le Berre-Vaquette, niece Sylvie Mercier; and nephew Jean LeBerre all of France.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Helmut in 2022.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street (Rt. 38), Geneva with Chaplain John Reimers officiating.

Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.

Visitation will be held Thursday, November 14 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home.
