Robert C. Newman

Robert C. Newman, age 96, of Batavia, formerly of Marco Island, Florida and LaGrange, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2024.

He was born February 18, 1928, in Union City, New Jersey, the son of George and Anna (Kestenbaum) Newman.

Bob attended school in West New York, NJ. Upon graduating from Memorial High School, Bob enlisted in the Marine Corp. After his honorable discharge, he attended University of Iowa. He was a proud “Hawkeye” and in 1952 he became the first member of his family to graduate from college. In November of 1952, he married his childhood sweetheart, Betty (nee Losch). He later went on to earn an MBA from NYU. For more than 30 years, Bob worked at the Western Electric Hawthorne plant. After retiring, Bob and Betty became snowbirds, spending the winter months in Marco Island. He was an avid volunteer in his church, serving in the Knights of Columbus, and in the community. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, GGP, and friend.

Robert is survived by his daughter Kathleen (Jeff) Pergande; grandchildren Jason (Laura) Pergande, and Kristin Kaye; great grandchildren Kaitlyn and Molly Pergande, and James, Henry, and George Kaye; his niece Christine (Tom) DePoto and nephews Stephen (Maddie) Stypolkowski and George (Patti) Stypolkowski and many dear friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Nanci Jean Newman; and his beloved wife Elizabeth (Betty) who passed away in 2019.

Funeral service for Bob will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:30 am at San Marco Catholic Church, 851 San Marco Road, Marco Island, Florida.
