Robert W. “Bob” Wilson, age 82, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at JourneyCare Care Center in Barrington with his loving family by his side.
He was born March 13, 1937, in Aurora, the son of Carter and Catherine (Greiter) Wilson
Bob moved to Sugar Grove in 1942 and later became the first paperboy in Sugar Grove for the Aurora Beacon News. He graduated from Elburn High School in 1955. He was the center for his undefeated 6-man conference football team his senior year and served as the basketball team manager. Following high school, he attended the University of Wyoming and earned a BS in Pharmacy in 1959. In June of 1958, Bob married Marjorie Ann Faltz and together they have 5 children. Bob and Marge were married for nearly 49 years. After Marge passed in 2007, Bob was reunited with his high-school classmate, Sylvia. They married and enjoyed the last 12 years together. Bob, and his beloved dog Bella, could regularly be found walking around the neighborhood or chauffeuring grandchildren around town.
Bob was an avid Cubs fan from listening to the 1945 World Series on the radio to finally seeing the Cubs return to the World Series and becoming world champions in 2016. The Cubs were not his only passion though. Bob loved watching his children participate in sports, and could always be found rooting them on from the sidelines. As an avid Geneva Viking fan, Bob helped form the Geneva All-Sports Booster Club, helping to ensure all students had the opportunity to be athletes if they wished to do so.
Professionally, Bob worked at Glidden Drug Store in Elburn, Illinois after graduating college. In 1964, Bob began working part time at Anderson Drugs in Geneva, Illinois and purchased the business in 1965. Bob loved the interaction with his many customers and was passionate about making sure everyone took their medications as prescribed. In 1972, Bob attended the University of Illinois Chicago and completed a residency in hospital pharmacy. Following his residency, Bob became the Director of Pharmacy and Physical Therapy at Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield, IL. In this role, he “decentralized” the pharmacy which was cutting edge at the time. At every stop in his career, he was always thinking about the patient and educating them about how prescriptions, when properly utilized, could enhance their quality of life.
Most importantly, Bob was all about family. He led by example, working extremely hard to make sure there was an abundance of love and happiness in their lives. Dad/Papa thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow up and was very proud of the leaders they’ve become.
He is survived by his wife Sylvia; children Kathleen (Stephen) Felt of Sherrard, William (Connie) of Geneva, Charles (Debra) of Prior Lake, MN, John (Lee Ellen) of Western Springs, and Theresa (Greg) Wagner of Plano; grandchildren Brian (Sam Battista) Felt, Katie (Darren) Carter, Alex (Erika) Felt, Lindsay Wilson, Elizabeth Wilson, Michael Callicoat, Jordan Wilson, Emily Wilson, Greg Wilson, Molly Wilson, Megan Wilson and Evan and Sophia Anast; Sylvia’s children Scott Siebert, Steven (Bonnie) Siebert, Bill (Ginger) McMahon, Alice (David) Long, Janet (Sand) Stubing and many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings Sharon (Don) Henderson of Sycamore, Dianne Mason of Colorado, Melodee (Michael) Probst of Texas; and sister-in-law Kathi Wilson of Batavia.
