Robert Sloan Obituary

Robert Bryan Sloan, age 51, of Shorewood, passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2025 with his loving family by his side after courageously battling cancer.

He was born August 26, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Michael “Mick” Sloan and Patricia (Wenstrup) Sloan.

Rob was an extraordinary man. He was an accomplished pianist, successful business owner, custom fence builder, raced BMX bikes, played semi-professional volleyball, loved decorating but most importantly he loved Jesus and his motto was “Always Do The Right Thing.” Whether it was family, a long-time friend or a homeless stranger on the street, if he saw a need, he was there to help. Rob was very generous and would hand you the shirt off his back. Rob has left a mark on this planet with his big heart, ingenious creativity, caring soul, insightful thoughtfulness, and an infectious energy that went beyond the confines of our physical world.

He is survived by his wife Kristen (Olberg); his son Theopolies, granddaughter Violet Senorina Hernandez; his parents Michael and Patricia; father-in-law Melvin (Diane) Olberg; mother-in-law Lorna Gowler; three brothers, Michael of Joliet, IL, Kenneth (Eileen) of Evergreen, CO, David of Joliet, IL, brother-in-law Jason (Christine) Olberg of Mt Prospect, IL, sister-in-law Kelley (Michael) Gibbons of S. Elgin, IL, sister-in-law Kathleen Olberg; brother-in-law James (Danielle) Gowler, sister in law Anna (Eric) Molitor, sister-in-law Carol Bouse, and brother-in-law Carter Olberg; nieces Meghan (George) Brunet and Mallory (Mitchell) Sunderhuse; Aunt Laura Jean, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephew and many many friends.

He is proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents Francis W and Evelyn M Sloan, maternal grandparents Bertram and Beatrice Wenstrup, Aunt Maureen (Robert) Malone, Aunt Betty Borman, Cousin Michael Borman, Uncle Francis Sloan, cousin Cpl. Jesse Thiry, mother-in-law Bonnie Olberg.

Celebration of Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva with Father Ryan Browning celebrant.  (Please meet at church.)  Click this link to livestream the funeral mass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BQVfTZARPU

Burial will be held at a later date at St. Michael Cemetery in Wheaton.

Visitation will be held Thursday, March 20 from 2:00 - 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, with a sharing time and prayers starting at 7:30 pm.
