Robert Sherbondy

Robert Earl Sherbondy of Rockford, IL passed into the arms of Jesus on June 17, 2025 at the age of 94.  He was born on May 28. 1931 in Omaha, NE to Dorothy Alice Graves and Alden Kline Sherbondy.

His early years found him enjoying sports and competition such as gymnastics and swimming.  He passed on this love of sports to his son's in many forms such as golf, tennis, skiing, soccer, baseball, swimming, camping, hiking and more.

He married Carol Alice Compton of Omaha, NE on July 7, 1953.  They were married for 26 years.  His later wife Betty Evitts  was for 23 years and ended with her passing 18 months prior.

He was a dedicated pastor and teacher in the American Baptist Assembly.  He pastored a few churches and taught classes often.  He enjoyed writing and publishing articles for his job which included photography for many years.  In the later years he built a website and shared his ministry online.  

He is remembered for the many enjoyable vacations with his family to visit various relatives and scenic areas around the USA.  His family would re-live the adventures with a literal slide show from a slide projector of nearly 1000 photos taken on slide film over the years.

His legacy of faith in Jesus Christ is passed on to his descendants which continues to this day.  Saying Grace before meals is still in practice today and part of his legacy.  You can find many of his writings at his website and related blog entries.  Personally if he could say one thing to you it would be “see you soon” and reference this…

He is survived by his brother Richard of Bella Vista, AR and 3 sons Steve of Fox River Grove, IL and Dana of Parker, CO and Russ of Greenville, SC.  He has 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29 from Noon to 2 pm at Malone Funeral home 324 East State Street, Geneva, IL 60134.  A memorial service will begin at 2pm. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMBZP3YIbr4

A grave side private service will be held Monday at Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin next to his previous wife.
