Robert William Brinker, age 82, of Elburn, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 22, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Walter and Florence (Boje) Brinker.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years Delores; children Stephanie (Joe) Waldschmidt, Tim (Jane) Brinker, and Melanie (Neil) Waldschmidt; grandchildren Katie (Hector) Velazquez, Alli (Anthony) Todd, Brandon (Cassady) Waldschmidt, Nathaniel Waldschmidt (Fiancé Brittany), Lexie Brinker, and Madi Waldschmidt; and great grand child Norah Velazquez.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald.
Bob grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and after graduating high school, attended the prestigious Washington University. He moved to Springfield, Illinois after graduating college and was hired as a computer programmer at Allis Chalmers. On April 16, 1966 he married Delores, the love of his life. Bob and Delores raised their three children in Chatham, Illinois until Bob was transferred to the Chicago area in 1985. Bob lived the rest of his life in the Chicago suburbs.
Bob’s biggest love was his family. His wife, kids, grandkids, and great-granddaughter meant everything to him, and he would do anything for them. He enjoyed family dinners, playing games, watching movies, and attending school functions. His second love was ice cream. He had ice cream every night and always had plenty to share. No matter how big or small you were, he would usually dish up three scoops. Everyone that knew Bob probably has at least one story about him, them and ice cream. Bob worked hard during his career life, putting in more hours on the job than the average person, though he did know how to unwind when on vacation or during weekend trips to St. Louis, Las Vegas, Smoky Mountains or Iowa. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially around the holidays. Eating out and trying new restaurants was also a like of his. Delores would ask him if he wanted to go to the store, and his first response was “where are we going to eat?” Bob will be missed for his love, humor, generosity and kindness.
