Randall J. "Randy" Ehlers Obituary

Randall J. “Randy” Ehlers, age 67, of Cave-In-Rock, passed away Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield from a stroke with his loving family by his side.

He was born January 19, 1954 in Harvey, the son of Joseph and Lucienne (Stone) Ehlers.

Randy was an elegant man with a fast smile and an eye for how to make things and life better.  He was a superb craftsman and mechanic with a love of antique vehicles and sports cars.  He loved great music, especially played on the piano.  He and Maureen maintained subscriptions for concerts all over the Western suburbs.  He enjoyed the outdoors, both as a runner and a biker, particularly in the nearby Shawnee National Forest. He loved his sons and grandsons, attending their games, especially basketball, whenever possible.  An excellent cook he liked to make big hearty meals of soups and stews served on a table that was properly set.  His love of quality showed in his business, You're So Vane.  He imported and sold beautifully crafted copper weather vanes and cupolas for homes and other buildings.  He had a great and wry sense of humor as you can tell from the name of his business. Although he was quick to smile, he was even quicker to show up when anyone he loved needed help.  He was a good and decent man.

He is survived by sons Christopher J. (Amber) of Montgomery and Allan John (Rachel) of California; siblings Dr. Linda L. Ehlers of Palos Hills, Thomas J. (Kathleen) of Thornton, Ronald J. (Mary Lou) of Lynwood, Dorina J. Maynard of Colorado, Sharon M. (June) Vann of Park Forest, Barry L. (Loretta) of Tennessee, Dr. John J. (Dayn) of California, and Lisa C. Fitzpatrick of Texas, grandchildren Logan, Bryce, Emmett, Lillie, Shane, Justin, and Clark; life partner Maureen Malone; the mother of his children Pam; and many other dear relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
