Pauline T. (Poirier) Gagnon

Pauline T. Gagnon, age 88, of Geneva, passed away Monday, November 5, 2018 at The Grove of St. Charles with her loving family by her side.

She was born October 15, 1930 in Fall River, Massachusetts, the daughter of Albert and Antonia (Sirois) Poirier.

Pauline grew up during the depression but she and her family avoided its worst impacts as her dad Albert Poirier remained steadily employed by US Postal Service during the upheaval.  Pauline was born at home on Chicago Street in Fall River.  The family moved a few miles to a house on Sanford Street in Somerset, Massachusetts when she was a child 

Pauline was fluent in French and continued to speak the language throughout her life.  She studied nursing at St. Anne’s hospital receiving her degree.  At the age of 26, Pauline married Roland Gagnon.  After her children were born she focused on raising her family but as they grew older Pauline returned to the nursing field to help support her family, even into her 70’s not quite grasping the concept of retirement.  She was an avid Catholic and was involved in many church groups.  Her favorite pastimes were singing and playing the piano, reading, and working on challenging puzzles; however her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.  She will be dearly missed. 

She is survived by her children Michael (Evelyn) of New York, Jeannice of Aurora, Susan (Hart) Gately of Geneva; grandchildren Lisa and Stephen, and William Gately; sister Marcelle Brodeur of Virginia; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joseph, and her devoted husband of almost 60 years Roland who passed away in 2015.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 4:00 pm until the time of her funeral service at 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with Rev. Msgr. Steve Knox officiating.

Burial will be held Monday, November 12 at 11:30 am at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
