Paul J. McDonough, age 85, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born June 15, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of William and Nellie (Sweeney) McDonough.
Paul bravely volunteered for the U.S. Army after high school and was stationed in Korea. Several years later, he started working for Miller Printing, which brought him to Chicago, where he met his wife, Barbara, and they married on July 23rd, 1966. Paul and Barbara were blessed with four daughters and nine grandchildren.
Paul was happiest when spending time with his children and grandchildren, and he was frequently in attendance for their various sports games, band concerts, recitals, and graduations. He looked forward to family gatherings, especially when he could beat his family at card games. Paul always enjoyed his cars, from his 1960s Mustang convertible to the family van that he bought for a summer vacation in the 1980s. Paul loved to travel, and his most recent vacation was with his family to the picturesque mountains of Montana. He also had the opportunity to travel to several European countries, Alaska, Hawaii, and many places across the continental United States.
Paul was a man of great faith, and his Roman Catholic religion meant a great deal to him.
Paul is survived by his loving wife Barbara; children Kathleen Soeder of Geneva, Mary (Jeffrey) Paveleck of Downers Grove, Dianne (Brian) Bollman of Savoy, and Sue Ann (Ernie) Lozano of Wellington, Florida; grandchildren Sydney and Alexandra Soeder, William, Joseph, and Michael Paveleck, Jordanne and Jakob Bollman, Zachary Stefansson, and Elizabeth Lozano; siblings Sister Fidelis, RSM, William (Donna), Regina Theisen, Katherine Madden, Leo, and Marion Feeney; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings John, Helen, and Rita Bren.
