N. Margaret "Marge" (Backer) Poole

N. Margaret “Marge” Poole, age 96, of St. Charles, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at Carriage Oaks with her loving family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Norman Poole; loving mother of Nancy (Richard) Thompson and Ronald (Ann), devoted grandmother of five, great-grandmother of four.

She was born January 5, 1927, in Ralston, New Jersey, the daughter of Francis Xavier and Nellie May (Dyke) Backer. Dear “Sis” of the late Edgar, Elizabeth and Carolyn.

Margaret was born and raised on a beautiful farm in rural New Jersey.  She was a graduate of Morristown High School and Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School, New York City.  She married Norman in 1952 and resided in Brookside, New Jersey until 1975 when they relocated to St. Charles, Illinois. Marge and Norm enjoyed many years wintering in the Sanibel Island and Fort Myers, Florida area.  Marge was a longtime volunteer at Delnor Hospital, Norris Center, Paramount Theater, Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall (FL) and ‘Ding’ Darling National Wildlife Refuge (FL). Marge enjoyed many outdoor activities, gardening, travel with Norm, and was an avid reader and excellent card player. Marge valued time with her family and enjoyed socializing with many friends.

Margaret’s family would like to extend a special thank you to her longtime caregiver Mariya, for her compassion and loving care.

A visitation for Margaret will be held August 14th from 9:30 until the time of her funeral service at 10:00 at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, 307 Cedar Avenue, St. Charles.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in St. Charles.
