Monica Wolinski, age 64, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 19, 1960, in Geneva, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Betty (Nielsen) Akers.
Monica was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, “Nana,” sister, aunt, friend, and a devoted caretaker. Monica’s greatest joy came from being with her grandchildren, family, and friends. A small-town girl, she spent her life in the Fox Valley area. Growing up in Geneva as part of a large family, she had many fun memories of riding her bike around the East Side neighborhood with friends, playing softball and basketball, having extravagant Christmas celebrations, and taking family road trips across the country. At 17, Monica met Ralph, her husband (for better or worse) of 41 years! After graduating from Geneva High School in 1978, she attended Waubonsee Community College and settled in Batavia. Her career was shaped by her strength in caring for others. Her favorite job was being a stay-at-home mom and caring for the elderly, especially her friend’s parents. She enjoyed swimming in her pool, lunches out with her girlfriends, going to the movies, visiting Las Vegas, chocolate, visiting her siblings, baseball games, cheering for Chicago sports, and attending her grandkid’s events. Friends and family loved Monica’s sense of humor, fun-loving demeanor, and caring heart. Monica fought a year-long battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer, impressing everyone with her strength. She checked off many items from her bucket list in the last year, including trips to Hilton Head, Florida, and Lake Geneva with Ashley’s family, seeing her youngest grandchild born, and countless memories with family and friends visiting.
Monica is survived by her husband of 41 years, Ralph; children Ashley (Steven) Norton of St. Charles and Chance (Carrie) Wolinski of Elburn; grandchildren Nicolette and Noah Norton and Lance and Lorelai Wolinski; and siblings Greg (Patty) Akers, Wes (Lani) Akers, Deb (Gene) Lake, and Mark (Tammy) Akers, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 East State Street, Geneva.
