Milton Strom, age 92, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2023 at French Manor Terra in Traverse City, Michigan with his loving family by his side.
He was born June 24, 1931, in Chicago, the son of Eric and Mary (Skarvarla) Strom.
Milton lived a long and honorable life. He served in the U.S. Army as part of the post-World War II peace-keeping forces in Europe. After returning from the Army with an honorable discharge, he married Agnes Gantley on June 19, 1954. He graduated in 1966 from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. In 1968, he moved his family to Midland, Michigan to begin work at Dow Chemical Company. Retiring from Dow in 1993, he spent his retirement years enjoying his family and his many hobbies.
Milton was a loving, devoted, and generous husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was blessed with a great sense of humor. Hence, he enjoyed a wide array of friends, including his colleagues from Dow, his neighbors from Burlington Street in Midland, and his fellow members of the Midland Radio-Controlled Airplane Modeling Club. While in the club, he built, flew, and repaired radio-controlled airplanes. He was an avid bowler and was honored as the best fisherman on his bowling team. Milton loved all types of fishing, owned several boats over his lifetime, and shared his love of catching fish with his children and grandchildren. In addition, he was an accomplished woodworker and crafted custom furniture.
He is survived by his children Jan Strom (husband, Jim Millhorn) of Geneva, Illinois; Judy Gipper (husband, Pat Gipper) of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Geri Frederixon (husband, Mike Frederixon) of Williamsburg, Michigan; and Eric Strom (wife, Wendy Strom) of Apex, North Carolina. He had nine grandchildren including Matthew Strom Borman, Peter Strom Borman, Daniel Gipper, Brandon Gipper, Valerie (Gipper) Klomparens, Shelia Marie (Frederixon) Orr, Sara Ann Frederixon, Benjamin Robert Strom, and Andrew Milton Strom. His five great-grandchildren include Keira Gipper, Sydney Gipper, Riley Orr, Grant Orr, and Alistair Gipper de la Parra.
