Maureen D. Malone, age 84, of Geneva, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born October 27, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Francis and Evelyn (Costello) Sloan.
Maureen was raised in Warrenville, Illinois. She began her elementary school years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Chicago but then transferred to St. Michael Parish School in Wheaton where she graduated from eighth grade. She then attended Madonna High School in Aurora, eventually graduating from Wheaton Community High School. She married Robert James Malone on January 26, 1957. She worked many years for Illinois Bell/AT&T starting as a 411 operator and advancing to department manager. She loved playing bridge and canasta and was a very active member of the same Geneva Canasta Club for over 62 years. Maureen also loved cooking, gardening, bowling, and watching the birds in her backyard. Maureen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
Along with her husband Robert, her brother-in-law Walter, and her sister-in-law Yvonne, she assisted in the reestablishment of the Malone Funeral Home in Geneva in 1964 from its original location in Chicago in 1924.
She is survived by her seven children Dennis of Geneva, David (Tetyana) of Geneva, Denise of Florida, Darren (Marlene) of Arizona, Deborah (Mark) Beckstrom of St. Charles, Daniel (Lesley) of Geneva, and Darcy of Florida; grandchildren Elizabeth and Zoriana Malone, Stephen LeMaire, Amanda, Ryan, and Nicole Malone, Sarah (Cody) Gabrenya, Luke Beckstrom, Avry (Laiken), Sadie, James, Eva, and Noah Malone, and Emma Malone; great-grandchildren Lady and Rocket Gabrenya and Elise and Madison LeMaire; siblings Michael (Patricia) Sloan of Wilmington and Laura Jean Sloan of Pingree Grove.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Francis, her friend Randy Ehlers, her second husband Joseph Wrobel, and her children’s father Robert J. Malone who passed away in 1985.
Funeral prayers will be held Monday, October 9, 2023 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Jonathan Bakkelund and Father John McFadden celebrants. www.youtube.com/watch?v=of43BB26iwI
Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Geneva.
