MaryAnn Handley, age 84, of Geneva, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Lombard Place Assisted Living, in Lombard, surrounded by her loving family.
MaryAnn was born on November 13, 1939 in Chicago to John Roy Sr. and Madlyn (Sanders) Stapleton. From a young age, MaryAnn enjoyed music. She played piano, percussion and loved to dance. When MaryAnn was in high school, she met the man that became not only her favorite dance partner but her partner for life: Martin (Marty) Handley. MaryAnn was an avid reader and would spend hours relaxing on a boat reading while Marty spent those hours fishing. Spending time with the love of her life brought MaryAnn great joy. MaryAnn lost her life partner in July of 2018 when Marty preceded her in death, this loss was devastating to her.
Family was a high priority for MaryAnn, time with her family was both precious and priceless to her. She loved her daughters and happily moved from being a mom to being a grandma and then later to being ‘Nina’ to her great-grandchildren. MaryAnn had a sense of humor and a bit of ‘sass’ to her that kept her family in stitches and endeared her to people she encountered in life.
MaryAnn is survived by her 3 daughters Madlyn Steffey of Geneva, Jill Meciej of Geneva, and Donna (Michael) Bode of Geneva; grandchildren Amanda Bellino, Philip (Stephanie) Bellino, Jeremy (Eileen) Meciej, Samantha Bellino, Alexandra (Quinton) Holloway, Katrina Meciej, Cassandra Steffey, Marissa Bode and Kaelara Meciej; great-grandchildren Emelia, Catherine, and Abraham Bellino, and Aedan, Caleb and Miles Meciej.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judith Lee Stapleton, and brother John Roy Stapleton Jr.
