Marlyss Alexander Obituary

Marlyss J. Alexander, age 92, of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 7, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of John and Beatrice (Jones) Hornyak.

Marlyss lived life with enthusiasm and joy. She had an adventurous spirit that took her to destinations near and far, always eager to explore new places and experience different cultures. Whether she was dancing the night away, discovering a new restaurant, or browsing her favorite shops, she approached each day with warmth and curiosity.

Above all, Marlyss cherished her family. She was a devoted mother/grandmother/great-grandmother and great-great grandmother whose love knew no bounds. Her home was always filled with laughter, good food, and the unconditional love she extended to both people and animals.

Those who knew Marlyss will remember her infectious laugh, generous spirit and stylish flair. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved, and her memory will live on in the countless lives she touched.

Marlyss is survived by her children Melissa Harrington of Montgomery, Holly (Steve) Zick of Sugar Grove and John Alexander; grandchildren Dorrie (Cale) Marshall; Ashley (John) Naill, Lauren (Mike) Chapman, Jarrod (Kelly) Harrington, Starr Harrington and Alexis Nelson; 7 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Laura Alexander, sister Lois Beach, brother John Hornyak Jr, and her devoted husband Dr. Robert W. Alexander.

Services will be held privately.
