Marie Karczewski, age 89, of Rockton, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Beloit Memorial Hospital, Beloit WI, with her loving family by her side.
Marie was born to her parents Walter and Julia (Slowik) Latko on June 14, 1936, in St Francis Hospital, Blue Island, IL, the same hospital she would later deliver three of her four children in.
Marie grew up on the far south side of Chicago, graduating from Fenger High School. In 1952, while attending a New Years Eve party, Marie was introduced to Gene Karczewski. She would soon realize that she had just met the love of her life. They were married on September 8, 1956, in Chicago, IL and were able to spend 68 wonderful years together.
Marie enjoyed playing the piano, traveling the United States and Europe and entertaining family and friends in her home. While raising her family in Geneva, IL, Marie was very active with St Peter’s Catholic Church and School. She was a past President of St. Peter’s Woman’s Club and Room Mother for each of her children at St Peter’s Catholic Grade School, attending many fieldtrips. But the time she cherished most was the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandson. She loved it when they would stop in for a visit, sitting for hours with each of them asking about their lives, telling stories and providing valuable advice.
She was most recently a member of St Peter’s Catholic Church in South Beloit, IL.
Marie is survived by her husband of 68 years Eugene; children Terry Ingold (Dennis Schenk) of Elburn, IL, Chris (Dave) Tweed of Manitowoc, WI, and Ron (Carmen) Karczewski of Rockton, IL; grandchildren Whitney (Tony) Spillman, Jacob (Meagan McKinnon) Dunaway, and Katie (Von Harvey) Karczewski; great grandson Michael Spillman; siblings Julia Triolo and Walter Latko; and many other relatives and friends.
She is now reunited with her parents, son Jim Karczewski, and son-in-law Michael Ingold.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street, (Route 38), Geneva, IL, with a liturgic wake service at 7:45 pm.
