Lynda M. Rivers age 77 of Geneva passed away Saturday July 2, 2022, at the home she grew up in in Elgin surrounded by her family.
She was born February 13, 1945, in Elgin, Illinois the daughter of Elmer and Dorothy (Beu) Schuring.
Lynda graduated from Elgin High School in 1963, attended Elgin Community College, and graduated from Drake University in Iowa. After teaching at Elgin High School and working at Allied Van Lines, Lynda and her growing family moved to Geneva, IL where she became co-owner of The Candy Corner for 8 years.
Lynda had a long career in politics starting soon after moving to Geneva, first with working on a local school referendum and then working for the late US House Representative John Grotberg and as a precinct committeewoman. She served as the Kane County Recorder from 1988 to 2000 where she modernized the office to make land records available electronically for the first time.
She later worked as the executive director of NAMI in Aurora, IL where she found joy in helping the families of people suffering from mental illness. She worked with local police departments to create a mental health training class for officers and was instrumental in creating the first mental health court in Kane County.
Lynda was an avid gardener, a passion she learned from her mother. Her garden was filled with beautiful flowers every year. She also loved sports, especially basketball, and most especially college basketball.
She is survived by her two children Michael (Diana Mann) Rivers of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Rebecca (Patrick) Harrington of Geneva; sister Virginia “Ginny” Schuring of Elgin.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral Service for Lynda will be held Saturday July 9, 2022 at 10:30 am at Malone Funeral Home 324 E. State St. (Rt. 38) Geneva with Pastor Trudy Stoffel officiating.

Burial will follow at East Dundee Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 8 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home.
