Lawrence F. "Larry" Kalkstein Obituary

Lawrence F. “Larry” Kalkstein, age 88, of Batavia, passed away Friday, November 1, 2024 at home with his family by his side.

He was born December 15, 1935, in Chicago, the son of Frank and Helen (Toff) Kalkstein. He was baptized at St. Stanislaus in Chicago and attended Von Humbolt grammar school and Crane high school. He was a proud graduate of Northwestern University.

Larry loved sports. He was a long time Cubs and Bears fan. However, nothing rivaled his love of golf. He would play golf with his sons, son-in-law, daughter and grandsons, or basically anyone who would ask.

Larry had a strong Catholic faith. He enjoyed reading at church, being a Eucharistic minister, and serving as an usher. He also worked with the Respect For Life Ministry for 20 yrs. Building a multitude of the small crosses for prolife witness. He also built a portable alter for St. Peters.

Larry was a loving husband. In the winter months, he  enjoyed snow birding to Myrtle Beach, SC enjoying the ocean, warmer weather, seafood and golf. Annually, Larry and his family spent 60 summers in Door County, WI. He enjoyed his time around Peninsula State Park with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren picking cherries, playing golf, and competing in the annual Pirates Cove Open. 

Larry is survived by his wife of Ruth (Ferencz); children John (Leticia) Kalkstein, Mike (Randee) Kalkstein, Robert Kalkstein, Carol (Lance) Silkes, Kathleen (Tom) Sherman, and Joseph Kalkstein; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren; siblings Diane (Andy) Sciana and Don (Ann) Kalkstein; and many other dear relatives and friends.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and siblings Joanne Gebhardt and Beverly Mauser.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 6,, 2024 from 3:00 - 8:00 pm at Malone funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with a liturgical wake service at 7:45 pm.

Funeral prayers will be held Thursday, November 7 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Ryan Browning Celebrant.  Click link to live stream the funeral mass https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ehqhbIxDVQ

Burial will be held privately at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 5501 N. Cumberland Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60656 would be appreciated.
