Kathleen Mary "Kathy" Jaeger, age 79, of Geneva, died peacefully at her home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 from breast cancer, which, not wanting to inconvenience anyone, she kept to herself until the last week.
Kathy was born in Geneva on November 23, 1944, to John and Eleanore Jaeger. Growing up in Geneva, Kathy graduated from Mount Saint Mary Academy in 1962. She was a talented singer, artist and ballet dancer. Kathy entered the Carmelite order in St Louis in 1965 where she got a nursing degree to care for elderly patients at nursing homes in Webster Groves and Jefferson City run by the Carmelite Order. She left the Order in 1974 and worked for several years at Elgin State Hospital and later caring for anyone who needed it. Her creative nature and flare for the dramatic was also always evident; she was well traveled, went to the Lyric Opera of Chicago often and was always ready to burst into song.
It is impossible to put into words what she meant to her family, her many friends and her parish. She didn’t need to speak about her faith because she lived it every moment by her care for everyone around her. She was the glue that held her family together. If anyone needed anything, she was there, no questions asked. Her humor and unlimited compassion truly changed the world around her for the better. Her death comes as a shock to everyone lucky enough to know her.
Kathy is survived by three siblings Mike (Margaret) Jaeger of Ottawa, Tim Jaeger of Geneva, and Betsy (Stephen) Lawson of Morgantown, WV; nephews Matthew (Selene) Jaeger of Northbrook, Matthew (Nicolette) Jaeger of Elburn, Gerred (Kathleen) Jaeger of Elburn, and Luke Jaeger of Glen Ellen; niece Angela Jaeger (Steve Huber) of Geneva; great nieces and nephews Lauren Jaeger of Elburn, Olivia, Lilli, Tatum, and Joseph Jaeger of Elburn, Kianna McMorris of Geneva, and Jacob Jaeger of Geneva; aunts Norma Jaeger of Geneva, Florence Jaeger of Ottawa, and Mary Jaeger of Batavia; and many cousins.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents John and Eleanore Jaeger of Batavia, younger brothers Joseph Jaeger of Elburn and John Jaeger of Springfield, her grandparents Justin and Blanche Jaeger and George and Agnes Wermuth all of Geneva, also five uncles, four aunts, and four cousins.
