Kathleen Dix Obituary

Kathleen Hope Dix, of Geneva, Illinois passed away Saturday, January 2, 2021 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.

She was born December 3, 1930 in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Thomas and Kathleen (Shields) Hope.

Kathleen, aka Honey, had a rich and healthy life married to her geologist/nuclear scientist husband George, aka Mike.  They started their humble beginnings living in basic housing in ‘the wild west” of Colorado and Utah in the 1950’s while Dad prospected for uranium.  Always adaptable, Mom arrived by prop plane from Baltimore donning white gloves and hat and pumps, only to quickly trade those items in for shorts and sneakers and a Willys Jeep.  The ruggedness of their new life together appealed to both of them.  She referred to those early years as the best years of their marriage that provided skills she would use for the rest of her life.  Even in her last days, she referred to their time out west as preparation for living by herself at GreenFields.  Mom was adept at throwing together a gourmet dinner for five that needed to be stretched to eight for coworkers or friends that Dad would bring home unexpectedly. In her family years, she thrived on providing a welcoming atmosphere as hostess and preferred the setting of the kitchen table for lively conversation over the formality of a dining room or restaurant setting. She also loved tasting new foods as food was her entrance into your heart.  In her later years, grocery stores and restaurants were her favorite venues with an added interest on new items.  She would always help her neighbors and lend a hand at a moments notice without ever calling attention to herself.  She looked forward to her weekly delivery of fresh bouquets of flowers.  She had a no nonsense personality with a big heart.  She was loved deeply and will be missed every day.  A bushel and a peck, and a hug around the neck.

Kathleen is survived by her daughters Kathleen Dix (Daniel Rich) Fitzgerald of Kennett Square, PA and Sally Dix (Richard) Murray of Batavia; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and friends. She was preceded by her parents, her sister Mary Patricia (Hope) Dorney Wich, her brother Thomas Hope, her daughter Ann Dix McFee, and her loving husband of 65 years George Parker Dix. Funeral services for Kathleen will be held privately in the Spring in Maryland.
