JULIA N. MOORE
Born: August 29, 1936, in Chicago, IL
Died: January 13, 2026, in Indianapolis, IN
Julia “Julie” Nan Moore (nee Backey), age 89, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully in her home while surrounded by loved ones the morning of Tuesday, January 13, 2026.
Born on August 29, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles Oliver Backey and Ruby Evelyn Backey (nee Nelson), Julie was proud of her Swedish heritage and even more proud of her two older brothers, who served in World War 2 as Marines. As a teenager, Julie moved to Geneva, IL, where she spent most of her life before moving to Indianapolis, IN, in August 2021, to be near family.
In high school, Julie was the new girl in town and successfully navigated the difficulties that can accompany such a move, ultimately being crowned Homecoming Queen and starring in Annie Get Your Gun her senior year. It was in high school that she met her husband, Lawrence J. Moore. Julie and Larry were married in 1957 and remained married until he died in 2001.
Julie enjoyed many years in her role of school secretary at Harrison Street Elementary School. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was often the “life of the party” when socializing with friends and her husband’s large extended family. She loved being around people!
Julie was the mother of three children: son, Greg (Paula) Moore of Avon, IN; daughter, Carla (Brad) Hevron, of Longmont, CO; and son, Chris Moore, who predeceased her in 2015 and is survived by his wife, Wendy, of Kildeer, IL. Additionally, she was blessed with eight grandchildren: Lindsay (Ross) Stowers, Ashley (Dan) Niles, Jennifer (Nate) Miller, Jeffrey (Madison) Moore, Alexandria (Sam) Engels, Brett Hevron, Blake Hevron, Andrew Moore, and 14 great-grandchildren, ranging in age from #15 due in June to 17 years old.
Julie will be remembered for many things, but especially for her bright smile, kindness, positive attitude, humor, grit, and determination. Her love and influence will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation for Julia will be held Saturday, March 28, 2026 from 11am to the time of her celebration of life service at 12:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
Burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date.
