Joyce Mary Windle, age 84, of Batavia, formerly of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born April 25, 1941, in Chicago, the daughter of Stanley and Loretta (McNearney) Habian. She grew up in Riverside, graduated from Bradley University, and in 1964 married the love of her life, Michael.
Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life — shopping trips, freshly done nails, and getting fully dressed and ready each day, even if she had nowhere special to go. She spoke with her sisters daily (sometimes hourly), cherishing their lifelong bond. She was a devoted mother to her two children, Kathleen and Brian, and nothing made her happier than being with them and their families. When her children were young, she and her husband created countless memories on family trips to Lake of the Ozarks, the Indianapolis 500, and Texas and Florida to visit family — traditions that continued years later with cherished spring break trips alongside her grandchildren and dear family friends. She was a teacher by heart, even subbing in her own children’s classrooms, and later worked in retail at Lord & Taylor and The Little Traveler. She loved to travel the world with her husband and dear friends, creating treasured memories across several countries. Whether traveling to Florida, spending time at Apple Canyon Lake, or Sunday dinners, she simply loved being surrounded by family. She could almost always be found wherever her grandchildren were — at school events, recitals, and sporting events — because they were her whole world. Her great-grandchildren, lovingly called “her greats,” brought her endless happiness, and she treasured babysitting them and spoiling them with special trips to the dollar store.
She is survived by her children Kathleen (Allen) Gibson of Geneva and Brian (Jennifer) of Elburn, grandchildren Jessica (Kevin) Venard, Allison (Marc) Johnson, William (Fiancé Annie) Gibson, Kailey (David) Moore, Jessica Kling and A.J. Windle; great grandchildren Olivia and Henry Venard. Elizabeth and Michael Johnson, and baby boy Moore due in Spring, siblings Noreen (Ronald) Mickelsen and Susan (William) Froula; sister-in-law Donna Windle and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her devoted husband of 50 years Michael, her brother John Habian, her brother Richard who passed away in infancy, and her brother-in-law Patrick Windle.
