Joseph J. Marchewka

Joseph John Marchewka, age 85, of Geneva, passed away Monday, February 26, 2024 while vacationing on a cruise.

He was born March 18, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Stanley and Edna Marchewka.

He is survived by wife of 47 years Karen (Foote); daughter Danielle; siblings Bobby Marchewka and Chrissy Stine; and many other dear relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry.

He was a graduate of Holy Trinity High School in Chicago, and attended Marquette University. He was also a proud Army Veteran.

Joe was a devoted and loving husband and father. He worked hard during his lifetime to provide for his family, which he took very seriously.  He was a retired fireman from the Northbrook Fire Department, and he also retired from Dow Jones, where he was pressman for many years.

He was proud of his home in Geneva, IL and had a circle of friends who he loved dearly.  His friends jokingly referred to him as “Big Shot” and was also known to many as Nassau Joe. 

He was an avid football and baseball fan, and could solve just about any crossword puzzle.  He and his daughter often competed to see who could finish the puzzle first on Sunday mornings. 

Joe enjoyed traveling to warm destinations with his wife, and spending time with family and friends, especially over a good meal. 

Joe liked to tease the people he loved, and to have a good laugh over a martini.  He was always telling a good story, and drew you in with his warmth. 

He will be very missed by so many.

A visitation for Joe will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 1:00 pm until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva.
