John J. Nickas Obituary

John J. Nickas, age 33, of St. Charles, passed away Friday, June 2, 2023.

He was born January 15, 1990, in Chicago, the son of James and Jeanne “Jan” (Nestor) Nickas.

John was a devoted family man who loved his wife and two little girls more than anything. He was a passionate teacher for nine years. He began his career at Pope John Paul II School for two years. For the last seven years he taught at Still Middle School. He just finished his Masters degree in May and was about to start a new position as assistant principal in Addison. John was a baseball expert, whether watching, coaching, or playing - he loved all things baseball. He was a lifelong Cubs fan; so much so that he made sure to have the playoff game on during his and Stephanie’s wedding. He was a huge heavy metal fan, a movie buff, and a history enthusiast. He was a scholar, teacher, coach, mentor, and a friend and he was a committed and driven person in everything he did.

John is survived by his wife Stephanie (Slivka); two daughters Alexandra “Allie” and Kennedy; parents James and Jan Nickas; siblings James (Laura) of Chicago and Jeffrey (Fiancée Corey) of St. Charles; in-laws John and Nancy (Robertson) Slivka; Stephanie’s grandparents Jack Slivka and Arlene Robertson; brother-in-law Cody (Fiancee Olivia) Slivka; and nephews Zachary and Shane Nickas. Also survived by many other dear family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his grandparents James and Elvera Nickas and Dr. Allan and Jeanne Nestor.
