John J. Hanses, age 56, of South Elgin, passed away from Pancreatic Cancer on Monday, July 26, 2021 at home with his loving family and friends at his side.
John was born March 25, 1965, in Carbondale, the son of Edward and Gladys (Miller) Hanses.
John studied fine art at Elgin Community College, where he was an award-winning photographer. As the owner of One Choice Cab in Geneva, IL, he enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life. A Grateful Dead fan, he appreciated the “so many roads”, which contributed to his unique life.
John was a devout Catholic, an avid fisherman, had a voracious appetite for a good debate, and loved an active game of pinochle with his family.
He is survived by his siblings Mark, Patrick (Judy), Daniel, Mary (Keith) Davis, Teresa (Gary) Richardson, Andrew (Darlene), and Susie (Joe) Murphy; several nieces and nephews; and other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Ann Hanses.
A visitation for John will be held Friday, July 30, 2021 from 4:30 to 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 7:00 pm, with a Rosary recited at 8:15 pm.

Funeral Prayer for John will be held Saturday, July 31 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Jonathan Bakkelund, celebrant.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Geneva.
