John H. Scalzitti, age 80, of Elburn, formerly of South Chicago, passed away Friday, September 1, 2023, at River Crossing in St. Charles with his loving family by his side.
He was born September 30, 1942, in Chicago, the son of John and Elizabeth (Giancola) Scalzitti.
John was a wonderful and giving father, grandpa, and great grandpa to all his children and grandchildren. He invested in his family with childhood stories, cleaning tips, and used copies of Consumer Digest!
John was a loving and caring husband. He never put himself first, although there were times I wanted him to be less selfless to please himself. He was an amazing man who loved me unconditionally and treated me that way. He was my soul mate and my best friend. He was always forgiving to me and others. He was a treasure.
He is survived by his loving wife Tammy (Freeman) of 21 years; children Joanne Scalzitti of Cortland, Judy (David) Tonry of South Carolina, and Richard Scalzitti of New Jersey; sister Betty Linder; grandchildren Stephen, Michael, Brian, and Kaitlin Tonry; and great granddaughter Amelia Tonry; also survived by Tammy’s children Eric (Becky) Groth of St. Charles, Christy Phillips of Plato Center, and Heather (Brian) Szarmach; grandchildren Jacob, Benjamin, Rachel (Noah) Morris, Emmanuel, Elijah, Judah, Daniel, Genevieve Groth, Megan and Jack O’Brien, and Chris Phillips; and many other dear friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and great grandson Isaiah Morris.
