Joanne D. (Driessen) Smith

Joanne D. Smith, age 91, of Elburn, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 1, 1931, in St. Charles, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Martha (Coryn) Driessen.

Joanne attended St. Patrick Grade School and graduated from Mount Saint Mary High School in St. Charles.  She enjoyed playing bridge, shopping, cooking, gardening, going to lunch with her dear friends, and volunteering at St. Peter School and Church. Joanne cherished her beloved Yorkie Poodle Lulu that she had for the last 12 years of her life.  Her favorite pastime, however, was spending time with her family and she will be greatly missed

She is survived by her children Michael (Vickie) of Warrenville, Tim (Rhonda) of Batavia, Tara (Pete) Gilligan of Yorkville, Cathy (Stu) Buchanan of Elburn, David (Barb) of Arizona, Megan (Eric) Hess of Batavia, and Laura Johnson of Elburn; 16 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister Dotty Marshall; and many other dear relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Bill, Bert, and Bud Driessen and Carolyn O’Malley; and son Jeff who passed away in 1973.

Visitation for Joanne will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2023 from 10:00 am until the time of her funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Gall Catholic Church, 43W885 Hughes Road, Elburn with Father Max Striedl celebrant.

Burial to follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Geneva.
