Jerome August "Jerry" DeBeir, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Illinois, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 8, 1934, in St. Charles, Illinois, son of Julius “Dutch” and Gladys DeBeir.
Jerry was raised in St. Charles, attended Shelby School and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1952. Jerry joined the Army upon graduation and was trained as a paratrooper, completing over 67 jumps during his time in the Service. Jerry then became an electrical apprentice in IBEW Local 701. He worked as a Union Electrician/Journeyman for over 40 years, and remained active in the Union upon his retirement.
In 1959, Jerry met the love of his life, Yvonne on a blind date. They met in September, were engaged in October and married in May of 1960. In true “Jerry” fashion, he was late to his own wedding because he was working on a side job. Jerry and Yvonne welcomed 4 children over the next 10 years: Suzie, Missy, Jay and Jamie.
Jerry loved Jesus, the Cubs, and Frank Sinatra. He and his “girl” loved to spend time in Door County, Wisconsin and Maui, Hawaii. Jerry was immensely proud of all his grandchildren. If there was a pot to be stirred, you could count on Jerry to do it. He had a wry sense of humor, little patience for “ding-a-lings”, read the Chicago Tribune front to back every day and kept a secret stash of jelly beans in his car. He liked his manhattans made with brandy and a cherry, WWII movies and letting two French Bulldogs nap on either side of him every day,
Jerry is survived by daughters Suzie (Michael) Frank and Missy (Tim) Messmer, son Jay (Traci) DeBeir, and daughter Jamie (Chris) Swenson; grandchildren Amie Hayes, Kayley (Chris) Bogdan, Andrew (Emily) and Evan Frank, Nathan Messmer, Lauren (Daniel) King, Alyse (Caleb) Smith, Jacob (Torie), Julia, and Jonah DeBeir, Jackson and Jefferson Dietrich, and Olivia and Lucy Swenson; great grandchildren Addison and Mia Frank and Emma and Ben Bogdan; brother J. Richard DeBeir of Geneva; and sister Nancy Sweet of St. Charles.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Yvonne.
Jerry’s memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 3:00pm to 6:00pm with a memorial service at 5:30pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva. Cubs apparel is welcome and encouraged.
