Jane Ellen Livingston

Jane Ellen Livingston, age 88, a long-time resident of Geneva, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Arden Courts in Geneva, with her loving family at her side.

She was born February 27, 1935 in Cuba, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Townsley) Clayberg.

Jane went to school in Cuba, Illinois. She was a cheerleader, active in her class as yearbook editor and class president. Jane also played the flute in the concert band. She enrolled at Illinois State Normal University, where she studied to be an Elementary teacher. Jane met Phil in college, and the two were married. They moved many times while raising their family.

When the family settled in Geneva, Jane took an Elementary Education position at Sixth Street School, and then transferred to Harrison Street School.  Over the many years of teaching, she taught several grade levels, and took great care in ensuring each of her students succeeded. Jane then became a reading specialist for the Geneva School District before retiring.

Jane was active in many organizations while living in Geneva. She was a long-time member of the Methodist Church of Geneva, where she enjoyed participating in the annual fashion shows, ladies’ luncheons, and book clubs. During her children’s high school years, Jane was active in the Vikings Sports Boosters. Jane very much enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting, music, and theatre events.

Jane loved ice cream and desserts, she loved reading, old black and white tv shows, and coloring, but most of all she loved her family. Seeing, holding, visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy, and she smiled with her whole body and soul when she was with family.  When family would visit Jane, her first question was what’s happening in the family, she wanted to be up-to-date on the news and activities everyone was involved in.  Grandma Jane will be remembered with countless happy memories and so much love.

She is survived by children Leigh (Nick) Poulos of Arizona, Tom (Sandy) of Geneva, Rob (Susan) of Elburn, and Joanna (Bob) Rogers of Geneva; 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband, Philip of 66 years, her parents, her brother Lee Clayberg, and daughter-in-law Joan Lake Livingston.

A visitation for Jane will be held Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
