Obituary

James R. “Jim” Smith, age 81, of Geneva, passed away Friday, January 14, 2022, at Delnor Hospital with his loving family by his side.

He was born August 4, 1940, in Bartonville, Illinois, the son of James and Marie (Lindsay) Smith.

Jim was a loving husband and caring family man.  He spent 4 years in the United States Air Force mainly in England as a crash rescue firefighter.  He worked at the Ill Correctional Facility for Girls in Geneva, IL as a Fireman.  After facility closed he became a store manager for Kaiser Stores.  After leaving there he worked for Cumberland Green Properties then eventually retired.  His favorite pastimes were watching NASCAR stock racing and football.  He also liked hanging out in his garage listening to the radio.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Helen (Lauderdale); children Steve of Geneva and Brenda (Tom) Kohorst of Geneva; grandchildren Madelyn Smith, Nicole and Tiffany Kohorst; sisters Sharon Henrich and Kathy Sanders; three nieces, two nephews, and many other dear relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

A visitation for Jim will be held Thursday, January 20, 2022 from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 12:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva with Pastor Andrew Griffiths officiating. 

Interment will follow at River Hill Memorial Park in Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association in Jim's name, at 300 S. Riverside Plaza, Chicago, Illinois 60606 would be appreciated.
