James R. DiGiovanni, age 80, of Elgin, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022 at Mercy Hospital with his loving family by his side.
He was born December 24, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois the son of James and Theresa (Ippolito) DiGiovanni.
Jim was a skilled union carpenter for 54 years and was a proud member of Local Carpenters Union 58. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, scuba diving and skiing. Jim was an avid motorcyclist and loved to travel whenever he could. However, his greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his children Anne (Sean Price) DiGiovanni of Geneva, James J. DiGiovanni of Elgin, and Theresa M. (Jack) Ratley of New Mexico; grandchildren Ethan, Nicholas, and Jack Price, Jonathan (Hayley), Christopher, and Destiny Vanderlois; mother of his children Karen (Alan) Scheufler of Streamwood; sister Rosemary (Constantine) Cataldo of Arlington Heights; and many other dear relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Joseph, and niece Terese Cataldo.
Funeral Prayers for Jim will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 9:00 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for Celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:00 am with Father Jonathan Bakkelund, Celebrant.
Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Hillside, Illinois.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home with a liturgical wake service at 7:45 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danney Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
