Obituary

James L. Windmeier, age 83, of Geneva, passed away Friday, April 7, 2023 at Bria of Geneva.

He was born May 28, 1939, in Slater, Missouri, the son of Oliver and Birdie (Long) Windmeier.

James was a United States Army Veteran. He worked in the security industry for many years until his retirement in 2019.  He enjoyed music, traveling, and was an avid reader, especially about news, politics, history, cars, trains, and art.  His passion was the Union Train Museum, which he enjoyed volunteering at for many years helping with projects, events, fund raising, and more.  He was the graphic artist/designer for the train museum magazine - Rail & Wire for many years and was even featured in an episode of WGN’s Around Town at the Museum with Ana Belaval, a very proud moment for him and the museum.

James is survived by his children Tom (Kim) of Geneva and Patrick of Naperville; grandchildren Eric, Ethan, Jared, Caden, and Griffin; sister Bonnie (Jeff) Sanden; niece Courtney Erskine; and his children’s mother Virginia Reilly.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
