Harvey M. Streit, age 89, of Geneva, passed away Friday June 17, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born July 16, 1932 in Aurora, Illinois the son of Christian and Olive (Strauel) Streit.
Harvey was born during the Depression years and strongly believed in being grateful for God’s blessings. He was a 50 year member of St. Peter’s Church and served as a money counter for 35 of those years along with his friends Ken Collins, Tom Schumann, and Omar Lang. He loved all sports and was an avid golfer. He attended Nancy Hill elementary school, Marmion Military Academy, West Aurora High School, DeKalb State Teachers’ College (now NIU), and the FBI School of Fingerprinting and Identification. From 1953 to 1956 Harvey served his country in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Sergeant. He was employed by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, first as a deputy patrolling the roads, then as Supervisor of the Record and Fingerprinting Division, Security, and Supervisor of the Warrant Division.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years Mary (Longoria); children Michael of Geneva, Lisa of Yorkville, Tony (Sandy) of Naperville, Phillip (Marc) of Seattle, and Maxwell of Geneva; grandchildren Kyle (fiancée Franchesca) of Chicago, Jack and Sara; and a sister Marilyn Nash. He also is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Adam Dominic, his parents, and two siblings James Streit and Dolores Lutz.
Funeral Mass will be Celebrated Thursday June 23, 2022 at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Rd. Geneva with Father Jonathan Bakkelund Celebrant. Mass will be livestreamed via https://youtu.be/So4d99Td1zg
Visitation will be held the same day, June 23rd, immediately before the Mass at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Rd., Geneva.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Geneva.
Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Geneva or the charity of the donor’s choice.
