Greg S. Coats, age 44, of Geneva passed away Thursday, February 28, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He fought a tough battle against leukemia with persistent hope and humor.
He was born August 1, 1974 in Joliet, Illinois and is the son of Les and Jan (Halm) Coats.
Greg graduated from Lincoln-Way High School in 1992, and earned his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Midwestern University in 1998. He worked at Omnicare for many years as a consultant pharmacist. Greg always put family first, and looked forward to participating in his children’s events. He was an avid runner and soccer player; his passion inspired his two children to enjoy them as well. He always looked for and learned from instilling life lessons. Greg was a fabulous husband, father, son, brother, and friend and will be dearly missed by all.
He is survived by his loving wife of 17 years Laura (Baltrus) Coats, two children Adam & Lilly of Geneva, father Les Coats of New Lenox, siblings Lori (Kevin) Keegan of Frankfort and Sheri (Shawn) Lindner of Yorkville, and many other dear aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jan Coats and brother in infancy, Jeffrey Coats.
Funeral prayers will be held Monday, March 4, 2019 at 9:30 am at Malone Funeral Home, 324 E. State Street (Route 38), Geneva, proceeding to St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva for celebration of Funeral Mass at 10:30 am with Father Jonathan Bakkelund, celebrant.
Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 3 from 2:00 to 7:00 pm at Malone Funeral Home with a wake service at 6:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Coats’ family for an educational fund to be used for Adam and Lilly.
