Gerald Joseph “Jerry” Liesen M.D. age 89, of Geneva, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born July 21, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Paul and Isabella (Heuel) Liesen.
Gerald is survived by his wife Mary (Ihnacak); children Dr. Ken (Jeanne) of St. Charles, Gregory (Sharon) of Virginia, Dr. Larry (Melissa) of Campton Hills and Karen (Dr. Dean) Delwiche of Wisconsin; grandchildren Paul, Erik, Abby, Katy, Amanda (Connor) Sgro, Andrew, Sam, Jack Liesen and Peter, Rachel, and Angela Delwiche; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Vircelle Ambler and Marjorie Plowman.
Gerald graduated from Aquinas College and Loyola Medical School. After serving his country as a Naval Physician and Officer, Gerald practiced Family Medicine in St. Charles for over 30 years. He held several leadership positions while practicing at Delnor (now Northwestern) Hospital. Gerald was also very involved throughout life in his Roman Catholic faith, including St. Peters Catholic Church, and both Marmion Academy and Rosary Schools. He was a man of many interests, especially spending his retirement years playing golf, cards, fishing, tennis, gardening, and traveling with his family and friends. Gerald especially enjoyed a good game of bridge with his buddies!
Due to Covid-19, visitation will be private at Malone Funeral Home in Geneva.
All are invited to celebrate Gerald’s life with a Funeral Mass, which will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 10:00 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, 1891 Kaneville Road, Geneva, Illinois with Father Jonathan Bakkelund, Celebrant. Masks are required.
Burial is private at Oak Hill Cemetery in Geneva.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Saturday, September 25, at St. Peter Catholic Church from 9:00 until the time of his Funeral Mass at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers memorials to St. Peter Catholic Church 1891 Kaneville Rd. Geneva 60134 would be appreciated.
